Fact: we have a God who doesn’t forget any of His children. The first reading says that is a cause for great joy that should make us shout! In this gospel passage, we see that regardless of the opinions of most people around him, Jesus responded to blind Bartimaeus calling out to Him because His purpose is always to heal and strengthen and liberate and protect. That’s what He does and who He is.

So the first lesson of this gospel story is – call out to Jesus! As it is written, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Rom 10:13).

Are people, or circumstances, or even your own thoughts telling you not to bother Jesus with your concerns? Be like Bartimaeus and shout over the top of them: “Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me!”

Are you inclined to think that God’s power and healing is for those with more “serious stuff” or for everyone else but you? Be like Bartimaeus and shout out louder: “Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me!”

When you have prayed about your concerns or asked to be healed or liberated, have you been tempted to give up because you saw no immediate answer to your prayer? Be like Bartimaeus and just shout even louder: “Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me!”

This is God’s promise: “I will not forget the blind and lame, the expectant mothers and women in labour…Tears of joy will stream down their faces, and I will lead them home with great care” (Jer 31: 8b-9). Jesus reveals to us a loving, forgiving, healing God – trust Him!

+ Lord Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me! Help me approach you with confidence and let me see with the eyes of faith that heals and liberates. I trust in you. Amen.
